Jesus Feeds the 100

It was supposed to be a day off—and I needed it. I was exhausted from a season of heavy ministry, hosting guests, and living in the thick of toddlers in the prime of their toddlerhood. To make matters worse, our well had collapsed, and we were carting buckets of water back and forth each day. I was tired.

But we had a guest in town, and we had promised to take him to a village for a day of Awana ministry. Despite the exhaustion, I was grateful for the opportunity—and for a day of ministry where I could bring my kids along.

We made the one-hour trip to the village, stopping along the way at a local shop to buy bread and water to hand out after the session. I expected around 60 kids, but we bought 100 pieces of bread just to be safe.

As soon as we arrived, my energy shot up. It was incredible to see kids already gathering—eager and excited to engage with the Bible. As the morning went on, more and more children streamed through the doors of the church, perched on top of a hill.

By the time we finished our games and shared the Bible story, I looked around and realized the kids had never stopped coming. I did a rough count—well over 100. Some of my teammates were counting too: one said 102, another said 120. Either way, I knew we had only brought 100 pieces of bread.

Not knowing what else to do, we simply began handing out the bread and water, one by one. I found myself standing there with about six pieces left in my hands. I looked up—and every single child was holding a piece of bread.

My logical mind wanted to count again, to figure out what didn’t add up. But my heart knew better. It felt like we were witnessing the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000 again, in 2026.

And in that moment, it was unmistakably clear—He is still enough.
